Assistant professor, Humanitas University

Paola Brescia gained her PhD in Molecular Medicine and Human Genetics at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan. After her postdoctoral experience at Columbia University in New York working on cancer genetics of B cell lymphoma, she joined Maria Rescigno’s group at Humanitas Research Hospital and Humanitas University.

Her work is focusing on understanding the biological mechanisms along the gut-liver-brain axis involved in the development of hepatic and neurodevelopmental disorders. Focusing on the role of microbiota and vascular barriers, she is using genetic and pharmacological tools to prevent the onset of such pathological conditions and therapeutically target them.
